Backup your digital life
In light of Hurricane Havey’s impending landfall along the Texas gulf coast, let’s talk about disaster recovery and prevention. Backups are like life insurance – you never hope to need it but you should buy as much as possible just in case. Most of us don’t think about backing up our digital treasures until it is too late. I can’t tell you how many “Uh, my drive is making this clicking sound. Can you get my precious family photos off?” calls I’ve had over the past 24 years. At that point, it’s just too late.Backup your data!
Plan for it now
In business, your data is your lifeblood. Fifty years ago, everything was paper and pencil. Companies made physical copies of their documents for safe keeping. Today, we just ‘trust’ that our critical data will be OK on our laptop hard drive – you know, the device that gets carried around and tossed in cars on a daily basis. Just as it rains in Florida, hard drives will fail, whether in desktops, laptops or servers. Time to make a copy and store it somewhere else.
Backup Options
There are a lot of different ways you can securely back up your devices. Local backups to a USB drive, to a network storage location, and to the cloud. Regardless of which method you choose, in the words of Nike, “Just do it!”
By far, the most convenient and easy to use is the cloud backup format. You can schedule the backup to run automatically so you don’t have to remember to do it. And best of all, it is cost effective and works regardless of location. As long as you have an Internet connection, your backup will run.
There is more to talk about backing up your data than I can cover here. Please reach out to us and we would be happy to go over your options and the most sensible way to keep your digital things safe and secure.
